A stringer is a lengthwise structural member that supports the deckboards in a stringer-style pallet. It helps establish the space between the upper deck and the floor or bottom deck. Stringers may be solid or have shaped notches for side fork entry, depending on the pallet design.
The number, dimensions and condition of stringers are useful details when identifying a pallet or discussing a replacement. The term describes a component; it does not establish a universal load rating or guarantee pallet-jack access.
