A pallet footprint is the two-dimensional outline occupied by the pallet when viewed from above, normally expressed as its overall length by width. It describes the base area, not the height, empty weight or load capacity. The footprint of the goods may differ from the pallet footprint if the load sits inside or projects beyond the edges.
Use the term carefully when planning a shipment: a carrier needs the finished unit’s maximum dimensions, while a pallet supplier also needs details of the base and how it will be handled.
