A stringer notch is a shaped recess cut into the lower portion of a pallet stringer to allow side entry by suitable forklift forks. Its length, depth and position are design details. Notches give a stringer pallet additional entry access, but the resulting opening should not be assumed to suit every type of handling equipment.
When matching an existing pallet, record the notch location and dimensions along with the overall pallet size. Altering a notch changes a structural component, so cutting a deeper opening on site is not a substitute for specifying the correct design.
